Climbing walls in Bibai City, Hokkaido

Climbing

In this page, I’m gonna introduce the lead climbing walls and bouldering walls in Bibai City, Hokkaido.
I hope it will be helpful for climbers who have never climbed in Bibai City, or for those who are interested in what the climbing walls in Bibai City are like.

History of Bibai City Sports Center
It used to be a gymnasium of the Hokkaido Bibai Technical High School

→ After the demolition of the school building, the gymnasium part was kept and reborn as a “Sports Center.”

Once you enter the gymnasium, you’ll see the view like below.

There is a bouldering wall on the stage!
That’s kinda neat to have a bouldering wall on a stage!
As we get closer, it looks like this.

Once you place your belongings in the waiting room next to the stage and take your shoes and chalk, you can go up to the stage through the small stairs beside it. You’re gonna see a wonderful view like below!
*If you get out of the waiting room during your break to go to the gymnasium hall, please take off your climbing shoes.

From the other side, it looks like this.

That’s quite an overhang wall.
There is a grade list on the wall. Problems are classified by colors in accordance with the difficulties (grades).
Pink color is the easiest grade, 7 kyu (V0-), and the red color is the hardest grade, 1 kyu (V6).
Grades of this wall are quite subjective, so some of them are hard as hell while others can be relatively easy.

On the left edge of the wall, a finger board and campus boards are installed for enthusiastic climbers. In addition, there is even a rope for training hung down from the top to climb up and down.

These training tools must look really attractive to those who seriously wanna get strong!
Then, if you look back from the stage, you can see the lead wall.

The left-side wall is close to the vertical angle, but the right-side wall has insane angle as it goes high.
It looks like this from the side.

As you see, this Sports Center has really rich facilities for climbers.
* Since the lead walls are planned to be renovated sometime in 2023, we can only use the bouldering wall during the construction period.

There are some days and time slots when we cannot use the walls due to reservations for private use, but the walls are basically open from 9:00 am to 8:45 pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
For now, the lead walls are unavailable on Tuesday afternoon.
